While Germany’s Electric Callboy aren’t known for their poignancy or emotional moments in their music, their blend of electronic and metal music is undoubtedly influenced by Linkin Park, among others. This past Thursday, March 20th, would have been Chester Bennington’s birthday, and as such, the eclectic Callboys paid tribute to the fallen frontman with a rendition of the band’s “Crawling,” from their Diamond-certified debut album Hybrid Theory.
The song’s lyrics lend themselves to a softer interpretation than what is found on the original release, but Electric Callboy aren’t known for subtlety or taking it easy. That fact is what makes this cover work, as the only instrumentation comes from acoustic guitars and keyboards. No breakdowns, no screams, just let the stripped-down arrangement and the sole voice of co-frontman Nico Sallach make for a compelling listen and a fine tribute to the departed Bennington.
