The music world was rocked by the death of Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison in the summer of 2021, and with as many projects as he had going, who knows what music we will lost out on following his untimely demise. While one such project, Vimic, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the release of their long-delayed album Open Your Omen, another of Jordison's bands is moving forward with new music for the first time since 2018.
Sinsaenum, a death metal supergroup featuring members of Mayhem, Loudblast, and Daath, has reformed with Andre Joyzi, Jordison's once-drum tech, assuming percussion duties. The band refers to Joyzi as “a trusted member of the band's touring family: chosen not only for his skills, but for the emotional connection he brings to continuing Jordison's legacy.”
The band has recorded a new album titled In Devastation, which is set to release on August 8th via earMUSIC. Inspiration for the release's name was provided by bandleader and guitarist Frederic Leclercq (Kreator, ex-Dragonforce), who named the album as a tribute to not only Jordison, but his own father, dedicating it to “anyone who's ever had to find strength in their darkest moments” (quoted from Louder Sound).
The title track of the forthcoming album is now streaming, and it is a hulking monster of a song. They fit plenty into just shy of five minutes of runtime, with sections of black metal octave riffing, solos galore, and an overall feeling of catharsis and release of emotion and negativity.
