Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, the longtime bassist of nu-metal pioneers KoRn, recently revealed that he hasn’t spoken to any of his bandmates in over five years. This revelation has left fans speculating about the circumstances surrounding his departure from one of nu metal’s most iconic bands.
Fieldy was a founding member of KoRn, joining the band in 1993 alongside Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Brian "Head" Welch, and David Silveria. Known for his distinctive slap-bass style, Fieldy played a pivotal role in defining KoRn’s sound on albums like their self-titled debut (1994), Follow the Leader (1998), and The Nothing (2019).
In June 2021, Fieldy announced he was stepping away from KoRn to focus on personal issues, stating he needed time to address “some personal issues that have been affecting me.” However, in a recent interview with The Basement Talk Podcast, Fieldy revealed that communication with the band had broken down long before his official departure. “I haven’t talked to anybody in the band in over five years,” he said. “I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know if they’re mad at me or what.” This silence dates back to 2019, two years before his public announcement.
Fieldy hinted that his struggles with addiction and personal behavior may have contributed to the rift. In his 2021 statement, he admitted to having “fallen back on some of my bad habits” and needing time to “heal.” While KoRn initially supported his decision to step away, the prolonged silence suggests deeper unresolved issues.
KoRn has continued to tour and release music without Fieldy, including their 2022 album Requiem. Fieldy, meanwhile, seems uncertain about his future with the band. “I don’t know if I’ll ever play with them again,” he said. “I don’t know what’s going on.”
For fans, the situation is bittersweet. Fieldy’s contributions to KoRn’s legacy are undeniable, but his absence and now seeming deeper rift with his former bandmates puts a sour note on the end of an era. Whether or not he and the band reconcile, time will tell.
