Alt-right tomfuckery aside, Skillet are among the most recognizable bands of the 2000s, as the hard-rocking group gave Christian metal a fresh, commercial sound in their heyday. The band's biggest hit is easily "Monster," and as of December 7th, 2025, it has cracked the Spotify Billions Club, reaching ten figures of streaming numbers on the platform.
Released on July 14, 2009, the song comes from Skillet's seventh LP Awake, and in the years since has racked up six Platinum certifications from the RIAA. It is a Halloween staple, given its lyrics and tone, to say nothing of the drop C tuning. It is the song that makes listeners go "oh wait, this is a Christian band?," particularly if they hear the version with the demonic snarl in the final chorus that never had a chance on 2000s rock radio.
