Ladrones guitarist Jose Macario has put his own spin on the 1997 track "Breathe" by British EDM heroes The Prodigy. In a reel posted to his Instagram page on September 29th, the Ladrones guitarist takes the track, which first appeared on the classic (and NMA-approved) full-length album The Fat of the Land, and lays down a 7-string guitar jam that jumps back and forth between djent-forward droptuned groove and a more metalcore-style suspended chord riffing. Take a look at Macario's cover below:
The Guadalajaran guitarist and prolific hip-hop producer's impulse to take a song in a different or adjacent genre and riff over it is long-running, and responsible for the birth of Ladrones as a project; the band got its start when Macario went ahead and added metal guitars and drums to a hip-hop track he was producing for current Ladrones vocalist Zyxmyr.
On the heels of their brilliant third full-length Arriba La L, the band has been running the festival circuit in the US, making appearances at Louder than Life Festival in Louisville, Kentucky this September, and Aftershock in Sacramento, CA on October 4th. After an appearance at Dia De Los Deftones in San Diego, CA on November 7th, they'll take a short and well-deserved touring break, and starting in February of 2027 Ladrones will embark on a rescheduled tour of the US and Canada in support of tech-instrumental genre mashers Polyphia.
