Much has been made of the lack of rock and metal representation at the Super Bowl, but we here at Nu Metal Agenda are not about to pick apart Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance, as it is important to know when it’s appropriate to swing a stick at a hornet’s nest. And I, for one, am not the one to take said swing.
What we will talk about, however, is the heavy music world’s reactions to the game last night, where the Philadelphia Eagles blocked the Kansas City Chiefs from a Super Bowl threepeat, in a 40-22 victory in New Orleans, LA. The Chiefs went scoreless in the first half, and the comeback they mounted was not enough to wrestle victory from the jaws of defeat.
In an effort to give an opinion on popular culture from a South African personality that doesn’t have an affinity for Nazi salutes, Seether took a shot at Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a social media post, referencing their early hit “Broken” along the way:
Yall just know he blasted broken on the drive home last night pic.twitter.com/6x0FKgZyCq

For the uninitiated or the long-lapsed Seether fan, the song deals in the heartbreak and sorrow brought on by loss and leaving someone behind. The song features on the band’s debut album Disclaimer, then re-recorded with Disclaimer II as a duet with Evanescence singer Amy Lee, who was in a relationship with Seether vocalist/guitarist Shaun Morgan at the time.
It would appear that, given that the Chiefs are without a Super Bowl championship this year, that they “don’t feel right when you’re gone away.”
Seether put out their eighth studio album The Surface Seems So Far back in September 2024, featuring the singles “Judas Mind,” “Illusion,” and “Walls Come Down.”
For old time’s sake, here is the remixed version of “Broken,” featuring Amy Lee of Evanescence:
