Divisive though they may be, Sleep Token have led the charge for a historic week in hard rock, as their most recent album Even in Arcadia has landed at number one on the Billboard 200 chart in the US. The album earned 127,000 equivalent units of sales in the US alone, and its streaming numbers have been the strongest for any hard rock album in history.
For those unsure of what an equivalent sale is in terms of the music business, Billboard breaks it down, stating:
“The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.”
Even in Arcadia, the band’s first album on RCA Records and fourth studio LP overall, also grossed the biggest sales figures of any rock album this year so far, as well as any hard rock release in the last two years. This also comes two weeks after Ghost landed atop the Billboard 200 with their newest album Skeleta.
