Static-X Announce 25th Anniversary Special Edition of Wisconsin Death Trip

The band celebrates a quarter century of their debut album with a new special edition available for pre-order.

Industrial/nu metal icons Static-X have decided to celebrate the 25 year anniversary of their wildly successful debut album Wisconsin Death Trip in an interesting fashion. As announced on social media, Wisconsin Death Trip (25th Anniversary Corrosive Edition) is set to be released on December 12th of this year, with the option to pre-order already available. It is important to note the use of the word "corrosive", meaning that something has the quality of being able to inflict damage and destruction through either literal chemicals or figuratively on relationships with other people.

The metaphorical definition seems to fall in line with the dialogue present in the announcement video. The narrators use a voice filter similar to that of Jigsaw from the Saw franchise, speaking about four subjects who came together on a fateful day in the summer of 1998, while showing pictures and videos of the band members. They're presented as science experiments, drug addicts, devil worshipers, or mentally unstable. It is revealed that they turned against each other, resulting in a crime scene dubbed the Wisconsin Death Trip. The style of the video is filmed in a documentary and found footage style.

Static-X got the inspiration for the title of their debut album from the book of the same name published in 1973 by Michael Lesy. Written about small town life in Wisconsin in the late 1800's, specifically about bizarre events and how people there met their unfortunate end, the book included hundreds of photos of dead people, natural disasters, and other horrible circumstances. This historical account captured the imagination of the band, and the new promotional video seems to place the members in the shoes of those who were recorded in the book, while we are the viewers of some sick documentary about their lives.

The most inclusive package is the Limited Edition Autographed Deluxe Version which includes a remastered vinyl of Wisconsin Death Trip, a second vinyl housing demos and alternate versions of the original tracks, redesigned packaging with never before seen photos from the original photo shoot for the album, signed prints, an ID tag, a pill bottle, stickers, a newspaper copy of the Ostego Tribune, and even more goodies all inside a custom box, retailing for $139.99 USD.

Don't miss Static-X on tour this fall in support of Mudvayne, where they will be celebrating this legendary debut album live.
