Nu metal and video games are a match made in heaven, as anthems of angst and aggression provide quite the backdrop for the PlayStation 2-fueled nights of staying up past one's bedtime. Halo 2 took the gaming world by storm in 2004, thanks in part to the inclusion of Breaking Benjamin's "Blow Me Away" on its soundtrack.
Understanding the importance of this song, Villain of the Story, who are on the cusp of a new album in Convergence: Two Minds in One, dropped a cover of the song, giving a modern melodic metalcore flare to the hard rock tune. They even recorded themselves playing Halo in an old-school LAN party setup and used the footage for the music video, old camera treatment and all.
The original song has more than stood the test of the time, but Villain of the Story give it the love and reverence it deserves, capturing a moment in time for the nu world in their own image.
