Avenged Sevenfold's Brooks Wackerman Plays The Drumeo Game With Jinjer

The prolific percussionist takes on the Ukrainian metal stalwart's song "Pisces" in the latest improv exercise from the music program.

Drumeo's ongoing series encouraging drummers to devise their own tracks to popular songs is one of the most entertaining thought exercises in the music sphere. In the latest episode, Avenged Sevenfold's Brooks Wackerman goes full groove/prog hybrid on Jinjer's "Pisces," and seeing his creative process in action is a treat.

The seasoned drummer, who's previously played with Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, and Avril Lavigne, takes his time identifying time signatures and accenting different parts to craft his own drums on the song. As is the case with much progressive rock and metal, figuring out the verses means some "long division," as Wackerman calls it when determining what grooves to include in his parts.

"Pisces" comes from Jinjer's 2016 album King of Everything, with drums laid down by Dimitri Kim. He was succeeded by Vladislav Ulasevich shortly after the album was released, and Ulasevich remains with the band to this day. A clip of the band's performance of this song at this year's Resurrection Fest was recently dropped on the festival's YouTube channel.
