Big Merla Pays Tribute to System of a Down With Maternal Take on "Toxicity"

The toxicity, when it hits me...

This week marked the anniversary of System of a Down's landmark sophomore album Toxicity, one of the cornerstones of the nu world. The title track has seen dozens of covers in the twenty-four years since its release, but one parody by a TikTok creator has ended up catching on, particularly for any metal moms out there.

Big Merla posted a parody cover of "Toxicity" to her TikTok, and the result is a one-woman jam riffing on the song and her motherhood, all while she wears a T-shirt with the iconic album art for Toxicity on it. Of course, the toxicity in her version is in regards to a full diaper, and we should remember that everybody, everybody, everybody livin' now, everybody, everybody, everybody poops.

She's taken on songs by Blink-182, Snoop Dogg, and loads of other cultural touchstones, putting her own spin on them in the name of content and coddling.
