oinciding with the release of their fantastic new album Who Loves The Sun, Oklahoma City no-wave/sludge sensation Chat Pile just dropped the music video for "Shrine." The music video is directed and shot by photographer/filmmaker David Fitt, whose work with the band was featured in their "Masks/Sifting" 7-inch. Released back in February, the limited edition 7-inch was the band's first release with legendary Seattle indie label Sub Pop.
For the latest music video, Fitt and the band opt for something more direct, following the satire and absurdity of the Digger send-up that was "Same Rules." Despite the simple setup—actor/filmmaker Matthieu Spinazzola traveling through a village in the French countryside—the video is rife with striking photography and expressive editing. The video was produced by La Relève.
Bursting with rage and dark melodicism, "Shrine" is one of the clear standouts from Who Loves The Sun. The three previous singles have all been strong, but "Shrine" is the sound of Chat Pile really outdoing themselves. By dialing back the post-punk reverb that gave Cool World its chilly atmosphere, the band's sound achieves a bracing immediacy, even in the quieter moments. Raygun Busch's harrowing lyrics and pained vocal delivery have never felt more urgent.

Starting Saturday, September 12th, Chat Pile will kick off their Who Loves The Sun Tour with a show at Tower Theatre in Oklahoma City featuring special guests Portrayal of Guilt, Nightosphere, Traindodge, and Primal Brain. The ensuing headlining tour, which will run through October and November, will include support from Soul Glo, Virga, Shallowater, and Prize Horse. On Sunday, December 13th, the band will take part in Converge's Saddest Day Fest in Boston. Tickets for the tour and Saddest Day Fest are on sale now.
