Chris Garza Has Named His Pick For Korn's Heaviest Riff

He might be onto something here.

The influence of nu metal on the modern deathcore movement is deeper than even we might realize. After all, it was Korn who popularized the use of seven-string guitars, which have now become almost the standard in the scene anymore. It's a game of "how low can you go?" and Korn have played it for decades.

As such, Suicide Silence founding member and riff lord Chris Garza answered a question about Korn on a recent episode of Garza Podcast, in which a listener asks what Garza's pick for favorite or heaviest Korn riff is. He gives his pick for heaviest, and his pick is "Here To Stay," even going so far as to break down the pedals and equipment that the band used to achieve the tone they did on the song.

While he gears up to play the riff on his custom Fender seven-string, he gives his reasoning, dead simple though it may be:

"When you hear it live, I mean, it's just, that's why they're my favorite band. That's why I'm in a heavy-ass stupid band."

Garza then goes on to play what he calls the Suicide Silence version of the main riff, with chugs and alternate picking to give the crushing lick more of a death metal edge. He also shouts out "Chi" and "Y'all Want A Single" as favorites of his to hear live, citing the energy and how the band "just go off" when those songs kick in.

He also goes on to sing the praises of nu metal and deathcore, admitting that he forgets that people hate on both genres, but as he puts it "you can't hate on Korn, man, they're the fuckin' GOATs."

We couldn't agree more, Chris.
