Industrial band Health has released "You Died," and I know I say this a lot, but this is my favorite Health single off the Conflict DLC album right now. While fans might think this obviously has to do with Dark Souls, the reference is in the name only. "You Died" is about the grief of being alive when someone you love has passed. As someone who's had to see family members and friends recently pass in the last 2-5 years, this song hits especially hard.
Specifically for the music video, fans on the Health discord server were asked to send in personal anecdotes and statements on people in their lives that have passed. One included a breakup, one was a a note about someone's father who had overdosed, one included a poem, and others included decades of grief. The song is somber and chill. The hypnotic vibes (while not entirely the style of witch house), do remind me of Sidewalks and Skeletons. The whole beat feels like it's helping someone to the other side, or someone on the other-side of the mirror you can't help but try to reach out to but can't. The lyrics "I WISH I’D BEEN A BETTER FRIEND / DID BETTER THINGS / I WISH I COULD SAY I DID SOMETHING THAT MADE ME DIFFERENT"...those hit different when you've had a high school friend who relapsed this year. Death sucks, but its not something we can't talk about. Talk to your loved ones when you can, they aren't always gonna be there.
