Legendary New Jersey emos (who dress like a horror punk band) My Chemical Romance ripped thorough a once-in-a-lifetime performance with hyperpop openers 100 Gecs. With arena alt-rock, political theatrics and choreographed dancers, the massive 25-song set was just the icing on the cake to excite fans.
What took us by surprise here at the Nu Metal Agenda was a cover of Smashing Pumpkin's proto-alt metal hit "Bullet with Butterfly Wings," a song whose anti-conformist lyrics really fit My Chemical Romance's sometimes darker themes.
