Nu England rising stars Cheem have released a lyric video for their new single, "Ripple Effect." The nu-metal/pop punk/early '00s boy band genre agnostics pair their latest borderline-proggy and downright catchy offering with sped-up slice of life footage filmed by Agenda figurehead Holiday Kirk while biking around Los Angeles, putting up posters featuring the lyrics. The video was released through In Bloom Recordings/Nu Metal Agenda Worldwide, which launched earlier this year and features a growing roster of new nu including Symposia and Prodigal.
The new track is classic Cheem, a little leaner, meaner, and hitting a little harder. Skye Holden and Sam Nazarian continue to play an electrifying game of hot potato with the mic, trading rapped verses and hooks reflecting on the bad decisions and failures that have somehow, against all odds, led them to this point. "I had a moment of weakness that lasted half of my life, and I overreacted," muses Nazarian with characteristically wry self-deprecation, "So I was hoping that you might forget me / Or maybe act like you just never met me." The chorus, though, finds the lead vocalists harmonizing their way towards some kind of peace: "It's kinda crazy all the things that had to go wrong / To get me here / Somehow the universe allows it all." It's an updated kind of pop punk lyricism born and bred on microblogging platforms, riding a fine line between crippling levels of self-awareness and defiant resistance to the kinds of reflection that might end up pulling the brakes on the runaway train, only to land at a new middle ground of uneasy acceptance. Cheem are on the road starting in mid-August with a series of eastern US dates supporting Greyhaven and Footballhead. After a quick break during the first half of September, the band will join the Set it Off Tour with Atlanta rap rockers and parking lot guerilla show rabble rousers Silly Goose, hitting venues across the United States and Canada throughout the fall.
