"Daoboys Karaoke Night" Brings Utah Closer To Heaven

In the band's own words: "...take my place. I wish a motherfucker would."

Things were not as they usually were for The Callous Daoboys on the day of Tuesday's Salt Lake City performance. Frontman Carson Pace would announce on the band's social media pages that he had fallen ill and was unable to perform during the band's set at the Urban Lounge. However, rather than cancel the show, The Callous Daoboys chose to take this in stride, turning it into an opportunity.

That's right, Daoboys karaoke!

Bands inviting fans onstage to sing songs is a concept all too familiar, whether it be Bring Me The Horizon inviting fans up for "Antivist" or Limp Bizkit inviting a fan up for "Full Nelson", but you'll be hard pressed to find bands hosting full karaoke sets anywhere, it's almost unheard of.

Several hours later, the band's page would make a post simply titled "STUDY UP" which included the show's setlist, denoting the key the live versions of the songs would be in, as well as when breaks in the set would be.

Showtime came, and the band was off to the races. They positioned a mic in the pit, free for anyone to come forward and belt into, and as advertised, they brought out some special guests too. Special performances included, but were not limited to, touring photographer Nat Lacuna (@newjunkaesthetic) performing "Tears On Lambo Leather" and bassist/backup vocalist Jackie Buckalew taking up main vocals for "Fake Dinosaur Bones" whilst Pace joined the band on bass guitar.

Judging by reports and posts after the fact, the concert went off pretty much without a hitch, and more angles were available via the band members' now-expired instagram stories. Violinist Amber Christman would take to Twitter after the event to say "update: this was one of the most out-of-body experiences ive ever had and i can’t believe we got to share that with you".

I'm sure it was quite a surreal feeling, especially for Pace, who was tasked with watching his band perform without him (at least for most of the set).

Moral of the story? The Callous Daoboys will rock your world no matter the condition. Oh, and also "make the best of a bad situation", but that's not as important.

The band are touring on the back of their latest album I Don't Want To See You In Heaven, and you can read our review of that record here.
