Iconic Wrestling Fan Rick "Sign Guy" Achberger Has Died

The wrestling world has lost one of its biggest fans and most iconic non-performers, as Rick Achberger, known the world over as "Sign Guy," has unfortunately passed away. Today (Sept. 27th), Lance Peterson of the WCCW World ClassCast reported on Twitter:

It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of
WWE Sign Guy Rick Achberger, today Sunday 9/27/26.
He was an absolute great guy and loved talking with fans at the shows. He tackled some health problems a couple of years ago, but last month began to go downhill rapidly. Rest in peace.

For a fan to become as recognizable as any of the wrestlers is truly a feat. "Sign Guy" was among one of the best-known, most freeze-framed-on individuals in all of wrestling. His blue workman's shirt, red ballcap, and plain black-and-white signs made for a visual as iconic as any other wrestler who he lampooned with said canvases. He was big enough of a deal for several WWE superstars to make a guest appearance when Achberger played Deal or No Deal in 2007, eventually walking away with $106,000 when all was said and done.

Sure, this news has little to do with music, but Achberger's most iconic times were during the Ruthless Aggression era, which overlaps nicely with nu metal's heyday, meaning we can claim him without much thought or overjustification. We here at the Agenda would like to extend our condolences to the Achberger family in the face of this tremendous loss.
