It's Official: David Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) Proclaims Nu Metal Is Not Dead

He put over previous touring partners such as Korn and Static-X.

Or, if you prefer, Big Four boomer actually praises something modern.

David Ellefson, best known as ex-bass player for Megadeth, recently took to his eponymous podcast to give nu metal compliments and even give his take on the much-maligned genre. This is in direct contrast to his former bandmate and Megadeth frontman/guitarist Dave Mustaine slamming nu metal in a recent interview. He put over previous touring partners such as Korn and Static-X, telling the tale of his first impression of the former (transcription by Loudwire):

"I remember getting that CD and going, 'OK, this sounds very weird.' And I remember it was a weird transition, because I don't even remember what the other CDs were, but none of them were of a genre that we would pick [to tour with us], so to speak. It wasn't like, 'Oh yeah, this is a great rock band.' They were all kind of a new flavor."

As for Slipknot, he was sold from get-go, saying (again, transcription by Loudwire):

"And of course, Slipknot, when they came out, they were pretty roaring out of the gate. You know, really the leaders of the masked band movement. And I know there were other masked bands around — Mushroomhead — but Slipknot certainly took that."

He went on to name his “Big Four” for nu metal as Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Slipknot, and that’s a pretty solid Mount Rushmore, all told.
