Kittie Has 6 More Songs For Future Album

“I think we’re probably gonna go back and take those six songs that we didn’t record and maybe rework them and then maybe we’ll put ‘em on the next record.”

Cats are our religion too.

After thirteen years away, the mighty Kittie returned to the metal world last month with Fire, asserting that they, to paraphrase one of the album’s song titles, still wear that crown. Fire, which peaked at number 20 in the UK and number 13 on the Billboard US Top Album Sales charts, came after years of silence from the band, time that included the 2017 death of longtime bassist Trish Doan, and a 20th anniversary documentary, Kittie: Origins/Evolutions, released that same year. And if a new interview is to be believed, fans will not have to wait another baker’s dozen trips ‘round the sun for new music.

Founding drummer Mercedes Lander recently appeared on the BREWtally Speaking podcast to promote Fire, during which she revealed that there were sixteen songs written for the record, which were whittled down to the ten that ended up on the album.

"There's so many songs that I like on this record. We picked 10 out of the 16 or so that we wrote. And I think that was the hardest part of this experience, was only picking 10 songs… It's so hard because I personally think that they're all so good, but I'm clearly biased. I think they're all great. And it was really hard to make that decision to pick those songs, so much so that we [told our producer Nick Raskulinecz], like, 'Nick, what do we do?' And he was, like, well, 'If it were me, let's pick these songs.' And we were, like, 'Okay, you know what? Let's just do it.' 'Cause we couldn't make a decision."

Lander went on to hint that those songs might emerge sometime in the future.

“I think we’re probably gonna go back and take those six songs that we didn’t record and maybe rework them and then maybe we’ll put ‘em on the next record.”

Raskulinecz’s name should be familiar to nu metal fans, as he produced for both Deftones (Diamond Eyes and Koi Yo Nokan) and Korn (The Serenity of Suffering and The Nothing), among dozens of other rock and metal A-listers.

Kittie will be touring behind Fire very soon, including a run of North American headlining shows throughout the summer. They will also be playing the Havoc Festival in Jackson, MI on August 24th.
