In a recent video over on the YouTube channel Drumeo, Mark Bennett, drum tech for KoRn drummer Ray Luzier, brought up the recording of the band's next, as-yet-untitled, album. While detailing Luzier's choice of snare—the Pearl 14x6.5 Copper Free-Floating snare—Bennett said the following:
This is what we just finished recording the new record with. They discontinued this drum. You can’t get it anymore. Thankfully, we have five of them.
Some have taken Bennett's use of "we" to mean the entire band has finished recording the new record. However, it's worth remembering that drums are often the first instrument tracked in the recording process, and Bennett may simply be referring to the work he and Luzier did for this new record. The new album's producer, Grammy-winner Nick Raskulinecz (Evanescence, Foo Fighters, Mastodon), is known for his attention to drums during the recording process and typically records them first.
Previous comments from members of the band support this interpretation. Speaking with Rolling Stone Brazil back in May, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer said the band had "probably almost 40 songs, and gone through ’em, and rewrote ’em, and got rid of ’em, and tore ’em apart, and rebuilt ’em." But nowhere in this quote, nor in the full interview, does he specify how many of those songs have been recorded. While it's great to hear the band is making progress on the new record, it's entirely possible the band is still hard at work on the follow-up to 2022's Requiem.
Whatever the case, KoRn are gearing up for their European headlining tour, which starts in October. The tour will feature support from Architects, YOUTH CODE, and PIXEL GRIP. Tickets for select dates are still on sale.
