Next Spring, the global infestation continues. Platinum-selling Grammy-nominated nu metal/hard rock veterans Papa Roach have announced the next leg of their Rise Of The Roach Tour. Starting in May, the 'Roach will embark on a 30-date tour across the U.S. Joining them will be horror metalcore sextet Ice Nine Kills and nu metal/alt-rock duo Ninth Key.
"We can’t wait to get out there and infest America again," says Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix. "Bringing our horrifyingly entertaining friends Ice Nine Kills is overdue, and we’re excited to introduce our fans to Ninth Key, a band we’re big fans of. These shows are going to be unforgettable." Artist presale and Papa Roach VIP packages will be available starting tomorrow, October 20th, at 10am local time. Fans can comment ROTR on social media to get the presale code in the morning. General ticket sale goes live Friday, October 23rd.
Of course, what really sets this tour announcement apart is the accompanying video courtesy of claymation artist Mr. Oz (Marvel, Twenty-One Pilots, Fallout Boy). Featuring 100% claymation (fuck AI btw), the video channels MTV's cult classic Celebrity Deathmatch to pit Shaddix against Ice Nine Kills singer Spencer Charnas. The quick clip even retains the original's no-holds-barred inside baseball satirical edge. Truly, how many people watching even know Shaddix had a short-lived MTV reality show at the height of Papa Roach's fame? About extreme sports injuries? Or that it was loosely named after the second single from their fourth studio album three years after the fact? Exactly.
Here's a taste of MTV's Scarred for the uninitiated. Gone, but not forgotten.
Why are the two frontmen battling each other Deathmatch-style? Unclear. Maybe Shaddix wants to get back at Charnas for that time he took an axe to the dome in Ice Nine Kills' American Pyscho-inspired 2021 music video for "Hip To Be Scared." As if Shaddix getting cast as Paul Allen (the Jared Leto role) wasn't insulting enough. Whatever the case, the inclusion of "ACT 1" in the video title and the "To Be Continued..." ending promises (hopefully plenty of) carnage and mayhem. Maybe Ninth Key will even get in on the action.
In his own statement about the tour, Charnas was quick to point out Papa Roach and Ice Nine Kills have some history: "Jacoby's cameo in the 'Hip to be Scared' video is already legendary among our beloved Psychos, and it’s an absolute honor to get invited to tour with Papa Roach." He added, "We can’t wait to put our blood-soaked stamp on the stage before P Roach blazes through their monster catalog of hits. It’s going to be several nights to dismember!" Fans may also recall Shaddix and Charnas teaming up to guest on the remix of Hollywood Undead's "Heart Of A Champion."
Starting next month, fans in England and the UK can see Papa Roach performing the current iteration of the Rise Of The Roach Tour with special guests LANDMVRKS and Sleep Theory. Tickets for select dates are still on sale but going fast. And from January 24th through the 30th, Papa Roach and Ice Nine Kills will take part in the 17th annual ShipRocked cruise vacation. A vacation cruise in January? Sure. Why not.
Check out "Death Match - ACT 1" and all the dates below.
Papa Roach's latest single, "See U in Hell," from the Netflix series Devil May Cry season 2, is out now. The new album should be announced any day now. Any day.
