Following Gojira’s incredible rendition of “Ah! Ça Ira” at the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, the United States plans to answer in kind with their own star-studded lineup for the Closing Ceremony, which takes place this Sunday and features Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Let’s be honest, Gojira’s going to be a tough act to follow with their show of fire and the controversial inclusion of a beheaded Marie Antoinette (history seems to be scary for some viewers), but RCHP are showstopping veterans all on their own as one of the most iconic rock bands in history. With the 2028 Summer Olympics being held in Los Angeles, “Californiacation” has got to be part of the setlist, right? With art direction by Thomas Jolly, we can be more than certain they’ll give us a truly spectacular show to tie everything together.
The Closing Ceremony will be presented live via NBC and Peacock this Sunday, August 11th, at 2 PM ET, hosted by Jimmy Fallon and Mike Tirico. For viewers in Canada, CBC will be presenting the Closing Ceremony across all its platforms, including streaming.
