The New Breaking Benjamin Single Is "Something Wicked"

No, cigarette moms and divorced dads, you're not crazy; it's been eighteen (18) months between singles from this upcoming album.

Last night, with barely any warning, alt-metal juggernauts Breaking Benjamin released "Something Wicked," the new single from their next album. For those keeping track at home, this is the album's second single, following "Awaken," which was released nearly eighteen months ago to the day. Fortunately, to hear the band tell it, the recording of their new album is more or less finished, with the final vocals being recorded at Welcome To Rockville. The still-untitled seventh album is the follow-up to 2018's Ember.

I can't pretend any longer / You slowly divide and conquer this way / I feel it becoming stronger / By light of dawn something wicked this way comes

As for the track itself, fans have been quick to point out how it harkens back to the band's early days, specifically their gold-selling 2002 debut Saturate and it's Platinum-selling follow-up, 2004's We Are Not Alone. Lead singer/ guitarist Benjamin Burnley's vocals in particular give the track some classic Breaking Benjamin flavor, as he effortlessly shifts between melancholy harmonies and that signature scream. The best moment comes when Burnley has fun with the end of the line "Bare the burden alone with no fear."

While no date is set for this new album, fans have plenty of opportunities to see Breaking Benjamin live this summer. The band will perform at Sonic Temple tomorrow, May 14th, in Columbus, Ohio. And starting next month, they'll hit the road with fellow alt-metal behemoths Chevelle for a co-headlining European/UK tour. In September, both bands will make their way back to the States for a tour with special guests STARSET and Kami Kehoe.

Check out the new track and tour dates below.
