Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, renowned members of Nine Inch Nails, secured their third Golden Globe for Best Original Score on January 5, for their work on Luca Guadagnino's film Challengers. Their previous wins in this category were for The Social Network in 2011 and Soul in 2021.
The award was presented at The Beverly Hilton by Elton John and Brandi Carlile. In his acceptance speech, Atticus Ross expressed gratitude to his "best friend, my musical partner, the great talent" Trent Reznor, stating, "The music that revealed itself as the voice of the Challengers never felt like a safe choice, but it always felt like the right one."
In addition to their win for Best Original Score, Reznor and Ross were nominated for Best Original Song for "Compress/Repress" from Challengers. However, the award went to Camille and Clément Ducol for "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez, performed by Zoe Saldaña.
Reznor and Ross are also shortlisted for both Best Original Score and Best Original Song at the upcoming 2025 Academy Awards for their work on Challengers. Following this project, they collaborated again with Luca Guadagnino on the film Queer, released in December 2024. Furthermore, the duo is set to compose the score for the forthcoming Disney sci-fi film Tron: Ares.
