Nu metal stalwarts Nonpoint have a new album on the way and they just released the first single, "Is It." The track is available exclusively through the band's official YouTube channel ahead of its streaming and download release on May 8th. Described as "the opening statement of a new era, setting the tone for the album's themes and energy of the new record," the track showcases the newest evolution of Nonpoint's signature sound. The band's finely-honed rhythmic and lyrical attack is run through with bursts of colorful synths.
Is it the color? / Is it the place? / Is it the frame? / Is it the face? / Is it the world / Am I to blame, am I to blame for? / Is this just another reason for me to be / Justified to be so outta control? / No
Lead singer Elias Soriano detailed the inspiration behind the single:
'Is It' is that internal conflict where you question getting too involved? Did I push too hard? Did I ask too much? It's that feeling of wondering if doing what you thought was right actually meant hurting the people around you.
The new album, titled The Last Word, follows 2023's Heartless EP and will be the band's first full length to feature lead guitarist and backing vocalist Jaysin Zeilstra who joined the band in 2019. Soriano spoke with Super Cool Radio back in March about the album's musical direction:
The overall vibe of the record is very, very heavy, very, very new feeling, especially with the addition of Jaysin, addition of some of the textures and layers that we're playing with sonically just in the general mix of our music, keys and strings and stuff that we played with on our X record that we fooled around with a little bit during the Hearless and Ruthless era.

Soriano also spoke about how recent features and the ensuing fan feedback shaped his approach on these new tracks:
I took steps way, way back and really started to pay attention to what people were asking of me of the collabs that I was doing with them and having that epiphany of, 'Hey, maybe this is what people wanna see me do more on my record. So let me lean in that direction' and go really back to basics and go back to a lot of my cadence play, a lot of my lyric play, a lot of metaphors and double and triple entendres and things that make people hopefully want to re-listen and dig in and find a meaning in there somewhere.
While the album's track list has not been finalized, Drummer Robb Rivera told Thunder Underground the band was working on "16[or]17 songs" with the aim of whittling it down to 10 for the album:
Right now I'm looking at maybe 10 songs, which is, that's a full album these days, I guess. The EP idea was a great experiment. We just wanted to try things out. It worked. Some people liked it, some people didn't. Me, I personally just like doing the singles. I just think you can focus on the one song. But I think we're so happy with this new music that we wanna put out 10.
No official release date for The Last Word has been set, but the album is expected to drop late this summer. The band premiered "Is It" and the track "Red Yeti" live during their April 26th show in Destin, Florida. The latter featured a guest verse from Skye Sweetnam of Sumo Cyco. Fans can catch Nonpoint along with special guests SOil and Sumo Cyco on their Outta Control Tour.
