Bloodywood Writes Love Letter to Their Hometown, Embraces the Nu Metal Allegations in New Single "Nu Delhi"

Bloodywood loves their city and it shows.

The best way to experience Bloodywood has always been their music videos, and their new single, “Nu Delhi,” is no exception. The band is as hard-hitting and sonically exciting as they’ve ever been, but they’ve always been deeply rooted in their home city, and something about their eight-string bounce-riffing and traditional drum grooves just hits different when paired with fast-moving shots of bustling streets and local landmarks. Rapper Raoul Kerr delivers his first verse in front of the India Gate, from the middle of crowds at public markets, and on busy street corners. We get shots of the whole band playing everywhere from government buildings to subway cars. The camera zips in and around the musicians like a dive-bombing hawk as we jump-cut to shot after visually rich shot. Bloodywood loves their city and it shows.

Musically, “Nu Delhi” isn’t going to surprise anyone who fell in love with the band after their brilliant 2022 debut, “Rakshak.” All the same elements are still there, the bhangra grooves and folk instrumentation merging seamlessly with Raoul Kerr’s rapping and Karan Katiyar’s djent instincts. Clean singer/screamer Jayant Bhadula puts on another brilliant performance, dancing between high notes and growls and dropping a chain of irresistible hooks–“This is not a city, it’s a game of chess.” What separates this one from prior releases is the richness of the production. The guitars hit a little harder, the basslines pop and bubble beneath the surface with newfound depth and clarity. If this single is any indication, the upcoming album–scheduled to drop sometime in early 2025–is going to be a hell of a record.
