Saliva And Trevor McNevan (Thousand Foot Krutch) Help Each Other "Cope" With New Single

The platinum-selling nu metal veterans join up with the Canadian Christian metal singer for a hopeful, spiritually tinged throwback.

Platinum-selling nu metal veterans Saliva have teamed up with singer Trevor McNevan, lead singer of Canadian Christian metal band Thousand Foot Krutch, for their new single "Cope." That's "krutch" with a "k." Between McNevan's early aughts flow and the blink-and-you'll-miss-it reference to dial tone phones, the track has a real throwback energy playing off the more slick, pristine synths underscoring throughout. The second verse shifts the lyrics into a female perspective in the current century to show how these struggles—poverty, alienation, isolation, suicide—are as prevalent as ever.

His mom was gone, needle took her soul / Dad in prison for a crime he didn’t own / Raised by a screen and a dial tone / He wrote poems in a notebook to feel less alone

Saliva vocalist Bobby Amaru had this to say:

"Cope" is about the quiet battles young people fight while trying to figure out who they are in a world that doesn’t always make it easy. It’s for every kid who feels too much, thinks too hard, and is just trying to make it through the noise. Having Trevor McNevan on this track was a blast and I feel that he really brought the song home.

McNevan shines light on the track's ultimate message:

"Cope" is about losing control—and realizing you were never meant to have control in the first place. The song really illustrates the feeling of hitting the bottom and realizing the only way up is to surrender.

The track arrives via Judge & Jury Records and is produced by Cameron Pierce Mizell (Machine Gun Kelly, Avril Lavigne), Luke Fiadino (LOCKED SHUT, Traitors), and label co-founders Howard Benson (P.O.D., Hoobastank, Kelly Clarkson) and Neil Sanderson (Three Days Grace).

The band has a string of shows lined up across April, May, and June including appearances at Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple. In August, fans can catch the band live in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
