Serj Tankian To Compile Unreleased Songs, Drops First Track, "Electric Dreams"

The collection includes material dating back two decades.

Serj Tankian has just announced his next solo album, Covers, Collaborations & Collages and released the first track, "Electric Dreams." The System of a Down singer will be releasing a new song each week leading up to the album's full release on October 24th through his own Serjical Strike Records and Create Music Group.

"Electric Dreams," available on all streaming platforms, is an intimate, psychedelic-tinged acoustic piece. Clocking in at just under two-and-a-half minutes, the song still finds room for subtly shifting arpeggios and Tankian's trademark vocal acrobatics in the back half.

"The whole story of this record is, similar to Foundations, these are archival recordings – some of them from way back. I wanted to put out a record of things that I had done with other people, collaborations that I haven't put out before. Some of them are straight out covers – I never put out covers in my life. And the rest are basically parts that fit the whole picture – in the same tone and the same vibe."

The collaborations include songs featuring DeadMau5, Bic Runga, and Lucas Vidal, along with covers of works by Chris de Burgh and Ruben Hakhverdyan. In the meantime, fans can catch Tankian and the rest of System of a Down live as part of a short tour hitting New Jersey, Chicago, and Toronto. Guests will include Korn, Deftones, Polyphia, and more.
