The investigation continues, as SKYND have unveiled the music video for their newest song "Johnny Kitagawa," named for the Japanese talent agent who groomed and abused dozens of people, only for his crimes to be uncovered years after his death. Thematically, the subject carries on from the duo's previous track "Jimmy Savile," which called upon EBM producer SWARM.
There is an aura about this song that feels just slightly different from anything in SKYND's catalog. It may be their most energetic and bouncy affair since "Tamara Samsonova," with the post-chorus line of "Sai go wa Johnny, sai go wa John" ("At last Johnny, at last John") feeling particularly pointed. The verses see SKYND's delivery in a quasi-rap, a talk-singing with her playing the role of Kitagawa, embodying the monster that was. It's unnerving in a casual, matter-of-fact way, which is on brand for both of the to-date subjects of Chapter VIII.
