Jonathan Glazer, undoubtedly one of the most striking and original music video and commercial directors to emerge from the 90s, has unveiled his latest work, Generation Gucci, a short film for the world-famous Italian luxury house. Amidst film work that includes 2013's masterpiece Under the Skin and 2023's Best International Feature Film Oscar-winner The Zone of Interest, Glazer has continued to release commercials and short films the confound and beguile in equal measure.
And this latest piece, featuring Slipknot's classic "(sic), " is no different. Nestled between Mina Mazzini's "Un bacio è troppo poco" and Charles Aznavour's "Hier encore" (recently repurposed into a TikTok earworm thanks to Bad Bunny's "Mónaco") is the Slipknot fan favorite, briefly rupturing the romantic summer (?) vibe, as a couple (?) ride their car through the night sky and across the moon in what feels like a twisted nod E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.
Gucci's official website describes the short film thusly:
Wearing looks from the new collection, a collective crosses paths in a space that exists between reality and the surreal in a short film directed by Jonathan Glazer.
No mention of what Slipknot's presence is supposed to mean, the inclusion is probably best left to interpretation. Or maybe it's a nod to that time lead singer Corey Taylor wore Gucci sneakers. Who knows. Either way, information about the Generation Gucci Collection can be found here. And if you can't afford Gucci in these economically harrowing times, you can, apparently, get close with the 25th anniversary edition of Slipknot's self-titled debut, out now on Roadrunner Records.
