After a year on the books, Static-X have publicly acknowledged and celebrated their debut single "Push It" going Gold, as certified by the RIAA. This means that the song itself has amassed over 500,000 equivalent units sold in the United States since its premiere in 1999. The band's debut album Wisconsin Death Trip dropped on March 23rd of that year, with the single dropping on June 10th.
For what it's worth, said album is already Platinum-certified as of 2001, having amassed over one million total equivalent sales in the US. It is also the band's most-streamed song on Spotify, standing at over 123 million streams at time of publication.
In a new video posted to the band's socials, a newscaster character bearing a head modeled after the iconic hairstyle of the late frontman/guitarist Wayne Static delivers the news, while acknowledging that the single is on its way to Platinum status. From there, the mission is given to the fans of evil disco: Push It Platinum.
@staticxband We've been killing it on the road the past year and haven't even had the time to acknowledge that Push It was certified Gold! X-Bot has crunched the numbers, and it's actually closer to Platinum now, so we're calling on you to help us Push It Platinum - or get a shovel to the face. We here at the Nu Metal Agenda happily co-sign this campaign, and hope that the benchmark is met expeditiously. For the uninitiated, here is the music video for the song, featuring claymation done by Mick Olszewski:
