With anticipation in the air for their upcoming EP, Atlantan beloveds The Callous Daoboys gave the music world a taste of what's to come with their latest single “Waco Jesus.”
It’s quite a sauntering track from the six piece, with the scalpel-sharp riffs, moments of spacey atmosphere and chugging bassline. Carson’s singing particularly shines throughout, careening between softness, grit and grandiosity. What’s more is “Waco Jesus” is the first track to officially feature newcomers Dan Hodson on guitar and Matthew Hague on drums, and they do not disappoint. There’s even a callback to “Star Baby,” the closer on their last album Celebrity Therapist.
With its 3:41 run time, “Waco Jesus” has all the marks to make it an earworm: it’s catchy, it hits straight out the gate and leaves you wanting more. That EP, titled God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys and releasing October 20, 2023, can’t come soon enough.
