Genre-bending Ocala, Florida, metalcore outfit Wage War just dropped "God Complex," the latest single from their upcoming album Landfall. Previous singles include "Blindfold," "Sweet Dreams," and the title track "Landfall." The new album, their sixth full-length, arrives tomorrow, Friday, October 9th, via Fearless Records.
Landfall is produced by the band's guitarist, Cody Quistad, who co-produced the band's EP It Calls Me By Name, which dropped back in April. Quistad's other producing and songwriting credits include Falling In Reverse, A Day To Remember, and Memphis May Fire. Pre-order and pre-save for Landfall is available here.
I need a funeral for two, double down on a curse / I'm talking all black everything, down to the hearse / I need a casket tailor-made, something made for a god / But even Heaven knows a complex couldn't fit in a box
Less caustic than the previous single, the thundering, chaotic, electronic-infused "Landfall," this track finds the band opting for something a bit poppier. Built around a bouncy, rumbling riff and chromatic figure, "God Complex" offsets the dark lyrical perspective with groove and a noisy metalcore breakdown. The harsher aspects of the band's sound are still present, just pushed back in the mix. Poppier, but still with a hint of darkness—there's no positive way to spin accusations of a God complex—this track offers a deceptively catchy spin on Wage War's sound. One commentor on Instagram even likened the chorus to Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack." They're not wrong.
Hot off their sold-out Australian tour, Wage War are gearing up for their Emergency Broadcast Tour with special guests We Came as Romans, Varials, and Cane Hill. The headlining tour will kick off with an appearance at Sick New World in Fort Worth, with the supporting acts joining them on October 25th in San Antonio. Next January, the band will make their way across the pond for a tour of Europe and the UK with special guests Invent Animate and Wind Walkers. Click here for ticket info.
