Though she has been gone for over two decades now, Aaliyah is an enduring figure in music and film, and in the nu world, we know her best for her role as Akasha in Queen of the Damned. Her final music video before her untimely passing was for "Rock The Boat," and in their most recent video, Japanese idol group XG pay tribute to the late singer with their own song of the same name, featuring an interpolation of her track included.

In one of their verses, XG's main rapper and nonbinary transmasc icon Cocona shouts out the departed, with the line:

"OK we could take it two ways / Liyah worked the middle while singing on top of blue waves"

According to the group's own label XGALX, the music video was filmed at several locations in Singapore, including Anderson Bridge, Gardens by the Bay, National Gallery Singapore, Palawan Beach, and Singapore Oceanarium. This was also in partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board.

XG's new album THE CORE is available now.
