It goes without saying Deftones have a strong back catalog. Any band that opens a show with "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" would have to. But with any new album roll-out comes the matter of balancing new material with old favorites. Fortunately, Deftones' newest release, private music, is the band's strongest album in at least a decade.
Coinciding with their new album's release the California band kicked off their North American tour in Vancouver, BC on Friday, August 22nd. The night's setlist saw the addition of the two singles "my mind is a mountain" and "milk of the madonna" as well as the best track off of the new album, "infinite source." An ode to the joy of performing on stage, the song seems like no-brainer addition to their live arsenal. Still, it's nice to see the band hit the ground running with this new tour. Make no mistake, the two singles also sound great live, but that was already apparent to anyone who tuned into privatemusic.tv last Thursday night.
The band's North American tour will find them playing, on various legs, alongside System of a Down, Phantogram, The Barbarians of California, IDLES, and more.
