Dreamcatcher member and rapper Dami has launched her solo career, after the "Face of Rock in K-pop" announced their group's hiatus earlier this year. While the group is still formally together, its members have been working on other projects, namely UAU, comprised of Yoohyeon, JiU, and SuA.
Dami, the group's rapper, has set forth her first solo song, calling upon the vocal talents of her member Yoohyeon to help out on "Chequered Flag," a building mid-tempo electronic track. Dami's delivery is powerful in the first verse, while the second sees her go more melodic, with Yoohyeon's vocals giving some pop panache to the overall product. The contrast helps to establish the song as two halves of a whole, while also making the sum greater than that of its parts.
Fans of the more rock-oriented side of Dreamcatcher may be left wanting more, but getting the heaviness and groove that "Chequered Flag" accomplishes without guitars is its own treat.
