Earshot are back with a new single and a new label. Less than a year out from the release of their comeback album, 2025's underappreciated Humaning, the L.A. alt-metal band have released "Love Left," the first single since signing to Judge & Jury Records. The track was produced by label co-founders Howard Benson (Hoobastank, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry) and Neil Sanderson (Three Days Grace) and is inspired by the tragic passing of legendary Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell in 2017.
Vocalist Wil Martin describes the profound effect Cornell's passing had on him:
Chris Cornell’s death shook me to my absolute core. It wasn’t just the loss of an artist I revered; it was the terrifying realization that someone who, from the outside, seemed to have so much – talent, family, success, freedom – could still somehow be completely overwhelmed by internal pain and hopelessness. I was riddled with anxiety for weeks.
I would often think to myself: if someone who has every reason to live can still be consumed by darkness, where does that leave people like me? Could any of us suddenly self-destruct without seeing it coming?
For Martin, writing the song led to a personal epiphany:
I don’t pretend to have all or even any of the answers. But what I came to believe for myself is that as long as I can find even just a spark of love within me, there’s something there to hold onto. That realization became the soul of this song.
The track also serves as a rejection of societal pressure to appear happy and well-adjusted at all times:
I think we’re suffocating under a culture that demands constant happiness and perfection. I want to shatter that lie. It’s okay to have bad days, bad months or even bad years. Pain is real. Grief is real, but so is growth. Feeling down, lost or exhausted doesn’t mean you’re broken – it means you’re human. For me, ‘Love Left’ is about finding that small glimmer of love inside yourself and not throwing it away.
Co-written by Martin and Blair Daly (Uncle Kracker, Rascal Flatts, Lit), "Love Left" is decidedly slicker and hookier than the dark, Tool-adjacent riffage that marked previous Earshot efforts. While the stylistic shift may throw some longtime fans, Martin proves equally comfortable navigating this new sonic territory. No album has been officially announced, but it's safe to assume Benson and Sanderson will have a hand in shaping Earshot's sound and approach going forward. And while the music video does not feature Martin in his pajamas with his bed on the ceiling, it still has some of that 90s flavor.
Starting next month, fans can see Earshot on the road with support from Lansing nu-metalcore outfit Heartsick. The band will also be making festival appearances at Louder Than Life and Rocktober. Tickets are on sale now.
