Incubus Tease Near Completion of Their First Album in Seven Years

Perhaps the label "nostalgia act" doesn't quite sit well with them after all.

After a year steeped in early 2000's nostalgia, Incubus are finally ready to deliver something fresh. The multi-platinum SoCal rockers have been celebrating their legacy in 2024 with a re-recorded version of their 2001 classic Morning View and a slew of shows honoring the album. Fans in attendance have been treated to the band’s willingness to breathe new life into their older material, improvising and experimenting during live sets—which is most of what Incubus has done artistically as a band for the past decade or so. However, as the new year approaches, Brandon Boyd and co are nearing the finish line on their ninth studio album—their first since 2017's Skrillex (re)produced and mixed 8. Perhaps the label "nostalgia act" doesn't quite sit well with them after all.

On November 17, frontman Brandon Boyd took to Instagram to share an update on the band's progress:

The post was accompanied by a gallery of behind-the-scenes photos from the studio.

This upcoming release marks a new chapter for Incubus, as it will feature their latest bassist, Nicole Row, who joined the band earlier this year, replacing Ben Kenney. Row also expressed her enthusiasm about the project on Instagram:

While much of Incubus' recent activities were a nod to the past, the band is clearly looking ahead with their new material. And speaking of fresh starts, both Boyd and guitarist Mike Einziger have once again decided to chop off their trademark long hair. It’s not exactly groundbreaking news, but for longtime fans, it’s one more sign that something new—and perhaps unexpected—is on the horizon.
