With their first EP Beautiful Chaos releasing earlier this summer and their Latin-inspired "Gabriela" becoming a viral sensation, global pop group KATSEYE have been on top of the world lately. And as it turns out, one of their members is a fan of another band who've been breaking records this year.
In an interview with Coveteur, Lara Raj, the main vocalist for the group, discussed her love of heavy metal, particularly of Deftones. Given that she grew up in LA, this doesn't come as much of a surprise, though her inability to name Metallica (or as she calls them, "the band that did 'Enter Sandman'") is a bit of a blunder. In any case, it's great to see the nu world get some love, especially from a prominent figure in the pop world.
Now all I can think of is a shoegaze-y version of "Gabriela" with Stephen Carpenter doing some ambient guitar shenanigans over the verses. Hey, we got a version with Young Miko doing a verse, let's make this happen. Why not?
