Memorial Day is a time for people to come together to honor those who have served and died in the U.S. Armed Forces. And this year, in what is only the latest in a series of bizarre, embarrassing, and no doubt costly, stunts, the Pentagon called upon Detroit rapper/rocker/country singer Kid Rock to take time off from singing about underage girls to deliver that solemn message.
"Hey everyone, this is Kid Rock," begins the "Bawitdaba" singer. "And this Memorial Day, we are remembering the sacrifice and service of so many who are not with us today. It's a special day; we're thinking of them."
"Once again, I wanted to say thank you," he continues, not even bothering to remove his black sunglasses and fedora. "God bless all of you for your sacrifice, for your service. Keep on Kid Rocking in the free world. God bless you all."

Rock almost made it to the finish line without making it about himself. Almost. Never mind that he finished with a riff on Neil Young's classic "Rockin' In The Free World," a song Young has repeatedly taken legal action to stop Trump from using. Disrespectful, legally dubious, and self-aggrandizing; it's no wonder Rock and Trump get along so well.
But even those aligned with MAGA must surely admit there are better vessels for this message during this, our 250th year as a sovereign nation. Or are Kid Rock and former Fox & Friends Weekend co-host-turned-Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth just that tight?
This news comes as Ultimate Fighting Championship (aka UFC) is constructing a temporary arena on the South Lawn of the White House in preparation for UFC Freedom 250. Originally scheduled for July 4th, the event was rescheduled for logistical reasons to June 14th (Flag Day and President Trump's 80th birthday) and will commemorate the nation's semiquincentennial. So, maybe this is just how things are going to be for the foreseeable future. Maybe this is the Memorial Day message we deserve.
Kid Rock's Rock The Country and Freedom 250 tours are still rolling along, and tickets are still on sale. Sadly, there will be less Jelly Roll than previously advertised. Check out all the dates and the music video for "Don't Tell Me How To Live" featuring Monster Truck below.
Kid Rock's latest, Bad Reputation, is out now on Top Dog Records.
