Yesterday, conservative British politician Nigel Farage took time off from demonizing minorities and immigrants uploaded a Cameo video praising child sex offender and former lostprophets lead singer Ian Watkins. Seemingly unaware of Watkins' heinous crimes, Farage read the pre-written message, calling him "I good man. A really good guy who was very much in contact with me." Posters soon caught wind of the obvious prank and spread the clip across social media.
The person behind the prank, alias "John Smith" aka johnsmithoncemore, took to the aptly titled FuckNigelFarage subreddit to explain his thought process: "I asked myself: 'Is there anything Farage would not do for money?' So I asked him to do a tribute to the former Lostprophets singer and nonce Ian Watkins!" Smith continues, "Unable to see through my frankly paper thin deception he took the money greedily!" Smith adds, "Have no illusions...this man will do ANYTHING for his paymasters!" To put things in perspective, Farage uploaded the compromising video for a mere £98 (roughly $131 USD).
While Farage has a wealth of controversies to his name, including recent claims of racism and antisemitism during his time teaching at Dulwich College, it was the Reform Party co-founder's behavior during last week's Prime Minister's Questions that pushed Smith over the edge. "Watching him giggling at PMQ's with regards to Grok's obscene images was the last straw." Farage was seen repeatedly smirking and laughing at Prime Minister Kier Starmer proposed fining or even possibly banning Twitter. The proposal was in response to the recent proliferation of users creating non-consensual sexual images of women and children via the website's AI Grok.
This isn't even Farage's first time falling for a Cameo prank. Farage fell for a similar prank in 2021 when he was paid to repeat the pro-IRA slogan "up the ra." When asked about the video, Farage responded, "Thank him for the money. There are lots of Ian Watkins. Tell him to send more. I did alter his request." True to form—and further proving Smith's point—Farage's sole concern is the money.
As for Watkins, he is still burning in Hell having gotten got in prison.
