Following the latest wave of certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), System Of A Down now has a Diamond-certified single, as their legendary track "Chop Suey!" now boasts 10 million equivalent units sold.
As a reminder, a unit can come from a sale, as well as by 1,500 streams on approved digital streaming platforms (DSPs). This is no doubt helped by the fact that the song crossed two billion lifetime streams back in May, putting the track in an elite club that surpasses even the Spotify Billions Club. Its inclusion on the setlist for Rock Band 2 and countless trailers over the years have certainly contributed to this landmark achievement.
In addition to the Diamond certification of "Chop Suey!" the band notched several more Gold and Platinum records, as both Toxicity and its title track went septuple (7x) and sextuple (6x) Platinum, respectively. "Aerials" went 4x Platinum, the album's opener "Prison Song" is now Platinum, and five songs - "ATWA," "Deer Dance," "Forest," "Needles," and "Psycho" - all went Gold.
All of this has happened just before the album's silver anniversary on September 4th, and considering that this album was infamous for the band in so many ways, if only given what America would go through just one week after its release, this is no mean feat for the alt-metal icons.
