It's finally happening; Hollywood is cooking up a Britney Spears biopic. While this could be exciting on a number of fronts (who will play Britney? Will it pull punches? Will it punch Justin?), for those of us in the nu metal army, there's only one question we want answered: Who will play Fred?
According to Stereogum's Instagram account, Universal Pictures is developing the film, which will be based on Spears' 2023 memoir The Woman In Me. Director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) is attached. While no specific mention of Fred Durst has emerged yet, we remain optimistic. Enough conflicting accounts and rumours have floated around over the years (most coming from Durst himself, notably on this, let's say, "poorly-aged" appearance on the Howard Stern Show from February 2003) to suggest that something went on between the two at the heights of their respective fame, and if this was in fact the case, no proper biopic could avoid addressing the allegations.
According to Durst, the two met when her management invited him into the studio to help work on some material for her then-upcoming In The Zone record. Also according to Durst, he wrote three songs for her that were "awesome", which he then kept for himself. As romantic as that sounds, it's nothing compared to what he wrote on Limp Bizkit's official site that same year, where he described her as "a person that I [wouldn't] have thought could make me feel this way". Fred! You should put those feelings into a song! "Ok, Josh! Ahem: 'Ain't it funny, scared to admit it/Very first night made the Limp dog hit it.'"
That's beautiful, Fred.
For her part, Spears has always denied anything occurred between the two. Regardless, we at the Agenda feel the best way to set the record straight would be to put Fred in the movie. We suggest Jonah Hill for the part.
