Mark Hunter of Chimaira announced in a Facebook post on November 14 that the band will be performing at Welcome to Rockville 2025 in Daytona Beach, Florida, continuing their on-and-off resurrection after several shows that were supposed to be their last.
Hunter detailed the difficulties of getting the band together for shows, starting with the band living in different states in the lead-up to the COVID-19 pandemic and continuing to the present day.
“We've all been domesticated, and some of us have responsibilities that prevent us from doing this full-time,” Hunter wrote. “For example, I rarely leave the house because I am a caregiver for my mom. Life isn't the same as when we were in our 20s when our most significant responsibility was finding ice to keep beer cold.”
Hunter wrote that even though the time has long past where he felt he was ready to close the book on Chimaira, opportunity has continued to knock.
In 2023, the band reunited to play their first shows since 2017 in celebration of the anniversary of their album The Impossibility of Reason. Following that, Chimaira performed at Inkcarceration 2024 to experience “that ‘festival’ vibe one more time.”
As Hunter described, “Then Lamb of God said, "Let's go party on a boat for a week." How do you say no to that? You can't. We all walked onto the boat, thinking, ‘Ok. THIS is it. THESE will be the final Chimaira shows.’ Of course… as we were literally boarding the ship, we got an email from DWP about playing Welcome to Rockville. We have turned down every offer for 2025, and honestly, I'm tired of doing so. We have so many fans who want to hear these songs…”
The fans have brought Chimaira back to life once more, and Hunter wrote it may well not be the last time.
“Thanks again to our incredible fans. We wouldn't get this massive opportunity otherwise, and we are humbled that the world demands we see each other again,” Hunter wrote. “See you in the pit.”
