Metalcore torchbearers Atreyu have a heavy new track out in "Children of Light," with Soulfly frontman and Brazil's finest export Max Cavalera (Soulfly, ex-Sepultura) providing vocals.
The intro sounds like a Soulfly song for sure, with tribal drums and palm-muted guitars, at least till the dual harmonies hit. When Cavalera hits with the second verse, his vocals almost feel like those of Al Jourgensen of Ministry, his low growls immediately taking the attention. It takes a bit for the song to get going, but once it's there, it doesn't let up. Cavalera's intensity with Atreyu frontman Brandon Saller's melodic sense help to create a contrast that helps the track really sing.
The track comes from Atreyu's upcoming studio album The End Is Not The End, set to release on April 24th via Spinefarm Records. The band admit that getting Cavalera on the track was a long shot, but it was worth taking, stating:
“‘Children of Light’ was created with a primal spirit in mind. A ‘festival’ song. Heavily inspired by classic Sepultura, though it seemed like an untouchable ask, we wanted Max involved. We’re honored to share this song with a legend.”
