PeelingFlesh Get Underhanded, Shout Out Al Sharpton On New Single "Crackology"

The Oklahoma deathcore band bring the beatdown and the shadiness with this new single. And Jeremy Piven.

Calling all fans of Slamming Gangster Groove! Oklahoma's PeelingFlesh are back with "Crackology," the latest single from their upcoming self-titled album. This new track follows the lead single, "Murderous Intent," which featured Mike Ryan of Missing Link. The album, entitled PeelingFlesh, arrives November 27th via Unique Leader Records.

Like so much of PeelingFlesh's growing oeuvre, "Crackology" is bolstered by a canny selection of samples and film clips that offset frontman Damonteal Harris's typically indecipherable vocals with knowing, sly humor. If the opening sample—a deep pull from 2003's Scary Movie 3 featuring Emmy-winner Jeremy Piven—"Crackology" is a play on "cracker" (meaning poor white folks) and the recently coined use of "crack" to denote sex (ex: "John Stewart out here cracking grandmas") to imply Harris taking part in some underhanded dealings of the carnal variety.

Here's the full Piven line, for the doubters out there:

I been cleanin' after this dumb-ass cracker Giggins for ten years, but I been hittin' it with his woman for twelve. Know what I'm sayin', n____? She likes her some chocolate. Sharpton for President y'all. I'm outie. Peace.

They even included the shout-out to Al Sharpton, who, at the time, had recently announced his candidacy for President of the United States. 2004 really was a different time.

Harris offers his thoughts on the track along with a glimpse into the band's creative process:

One of our personal favorites from the album even though all of them are our favorite. A lot of insane samples that we've been wanting to use for a very long time in this one.

Assuming Harris is referring to not just "Crackology" but PeelingFlesh as a whole, this suggests the band has had a strong hold on their brand of irreverent millennial/early 2000s/web 1.0-influenced sense of humor from the jump. The inclusion of a snippet from Method Man and Red Man's stoner classic How High ("With all due respect sir, suck my dick") supports this argument.

The track closes with an extended sample of Kingpin Skinny Pimp's intro from his 1996 track "Y’all Ain’t No Killaz," calling out the doubters. PeelingFlesh take being unserious very seriously.

Yeah, this song is dedicated to you n____ who forgot where the fuck you came from / You doubt trick-mouth trick-ass bitches who can't run shit but the bullshit you stressin' backwards / Made it behind my motherfucking eyes, y'all n____ ain't no killers / Real killers have no alibi; drop that shit

Here, for no good reason, is a shot of the band's bassist, Chip Smith, taken straight from the "Crackology" visualizer:
