Poppy Unveils "Time Will Tell," The Latest Single From 'Empty Hands'

Ready to take matters into her own hands, Poppy offers a warning to the crooks and losers.

Coinciding with the release of her seventh full-length album, Empty Hands, Poppy has unveiled the music video for the third single, "Time Will Tell." Turns out yesterday's spoken word piece was a sneak peek of the music video. The full clip fleshes out the visuals a bit, but it's really the lyrics that take benefit from the additional context of "the dogs are already biting." She's trapped in a situation and trying to break out. The specifics are elided, but "the dogs are already biting" makes clear the people, and the harm they cause, inhabit every facet of our modern world. More, she sees through their facade:

"Why does every loser think they're brave?"

There's pain mixed with a sense of culpability that makes the situation all the more fraught.

"Why do all the crooks keep calling me home?"

Poppy is keenly aware that the danger is close—and only getting closer. Still, violence tends to reveal a person's true character. No secret stays buried forever:

...cause time will tell / If violence follows you to hell / And time will tell / Pulling the veil of who you are

But she also makes clear, earlier in the track, that she's more than willing to take matters into her own hands, screaming:

I'll drag you to hell / If time won't tell / I'll find you myself

In the meantime, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is currently on her Constantly Nowhere Tour with Ocean Grove and Inertia and will soon be heading over to Europe and the UK with Ocean Grove and Fox Lake. After a stop at Upheaval Fest, she'll join Evanescence on their world tour. Check out tour dates and the full Orie McGinness-directed video below.
