This Friday sees the premiere of season 18 of the monolith that is RuPaul's Drag Race, a series responsible for launching the art of female illusion and gender performance into the stratosphere. One of the most iconic performers to grace the Werkroom is Alaska Thunderfuck, season five finalist and All Stars season two champion. The Erie, PA native is no stranger to pushing boundaries of fashion and taste, and one of her latest performances shows she's not averse to turning genre on its ear, either.
On her December 17th "A Very Alaska Christmas" show in New York's iconic Gramercy Theater, the Glamtronian import pulled out a cover of Drowning Pool's "Bodies," and while it pales in comparison to Offset and J.I.D.'s performance on The Tonight Show from earlier this year, hearing metal, much less nu metal, in drag is still not as common as one might think.
Granted, she did cover Creed's "Higher" several months back, so all I'm saying is a dad rock covers album might be in order. It's been three, going on four years since Alaska's last studio effort Red 4 Filth, so what's keeping her?
