The latest investigation by true-crime nu-industrial duo SKYND has wrapped, as the namesake singer and producer/multi-instrumentalist Father have dropped "Danny Masterson," named for the actor-cum-Scientologist stooge who is serving thirty to life for the rape and sexual assault of three women in the early Aughts.
This particular track goes for the grandeur with orchestral elements to serve as the stand-in for the Church of Scientology, who appear to have protected Masterson and influenced his accusers to hold off on turning him into authorities. It's a driving, thumping effort that leans more into the nu than the industrial, with the verses almost rapped by SKYND herself. It's uneasy, which is more or less the point, but it's also the right level of eerie while maintaining an earworm quality to it.
The timing is unfortunately impeccable, as news of the Cornell (5)7 ripples through social media and news stations. This, as well as all three songs on Chapter VIII: The Open Secret, are a grim reminder that the monsters are among us, hiding in plain sight.
